Review: And I Darken

No one expects a princess to be brutal. And Lada Dragwyla likes it that way.

Ever since she and her brother were abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman sultan’s courts, Lada has known that ruthlessness is the key to survival. For the lineage that makes her and her brother special also makes them targets.

The first of an epic new trilogy starring the ultimate anti-princess who does not have a gentle heart. Lada knows how to wield a sword, and she’ll stop at nothing to keep herself and her brother alive.

I heard about this book from a book club meeting I attended in Adelaide (BTW if you live in Adelaide and don’t attend the YA Circle Book Club meetings, what are you doing with your life?) and bought this book solely on the recommendations from the girls, Sian and Tori.  Considering that I hadn’t really read or heard anything about the plot of this book, it was pure luck that this purchase turned out to be a good one.

25 Bookish Facts About Me

Let’s get to know each other better, here are a few bookish facts about me. Please tell me some bookish facts about you! Anything we have in common?

  1. I read pretty fast. It usually takes me about 2 hours to finish a book, if it’s shorter, an hour and a half at most.
  2. I don’t have set reading times. I read when I feel like it.

Bookstagram: Love it or Hate it?

Instagram is taking over our social media time, there’s no doubt about it. It’s one of the most popular apps on the appstore, and beat Twitter out for members back in 2015 and still manages to be in the top ten social media sites in 2016.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.14.03 pm.pngBut when did Bookstagram take hold of the popular social media platform? It’s hard to say exactly, it’s probably been around since Instagram’s launch in 2010 but in the last few years its certainly carved out its space on the app. It’s also changed the way people talk about books on the internet.

Gone are the days where you’ll find a book blog with solely just a text review, or just the image of the book’s front cover alongside a text based review. Maybe you could make a comment on how human’s need images to break up text online, or say that its making us lazy online readers. Sure you could say those things and you might be right. But it’s very hard to say for sure.

My Master’s Thesis: Creative Writing

Anyone who knows me in real life knows that for the last 11 months of my life I’ve been working on my Master’s Thesis, the document that culminates all my study up to this point in my life.

It’s a pretty big deal. Not only is it the basis for the second year of my degree, but it also counts for a HUGE portion of my GPA and it shows my examiner exactly what I’ve got to offer as a writer. No pressure.

This blog is all about the written word and authors worth knowing. I hope that together we can share in a love of books and characters and discuss some of our favourites. This will be my home for reviews, previews, thoughts and feelings as well as book to movie adaptions and everything in between.
I hope you enjoy books as much as I do and I’d love for you to have a look around, leave a comment or two telling me your thoughts.
So hello blogging world, this is me 🙂
