A Little About Me

IMG_1526

Hi! I’m Emily, so nice to (virtually) meet you.

I’m a twenty-something creative with a Master’s Degree in creative writing and publishing from the University of Melbourne.

An Adelaide native who loves to learn, write and continually read.

I started this blog so I could share my love of reading with people who love it just as much as me. It’s been a really fun ride so far, and I’d love for you to join in with me.

My reading habits very on my moods but generally you’ll find me reading fantasy or sci-fi. That’s where I find the greatest sense of escapism, joy and some of the most interesting and creative stories. I do enjoy a great contemporary fiction story, but it has to be something left of centre, because I haven’t got time for stories I feel like I’ve read before.

For me the marks of a great book include well rounded, complex, stories that have unique or original elements but most importantly I have to relate to the characters. I have to want to be on that journey because I’m invested in that person’s story.

You’ll find a whole bunch of things here on reading, writing, and even some personal reflections. Come back for weekly book reviews, afterthoughts on book events and even some book hauls because we all love getting new books right?

If you want to learn more about my bookish tendencies, read my 25 Bookish Facts About Me post.

Happy Reading ❀

My review policy & Rating System

Just to clarify I don’t review every book I read because that would get a bit boring for you guys to read. If you do want to know every single book I read, follow me on Goodreads (link in the sidebar).

I also do not review self-published books and currently do no acceptΒ unsolicited titles for review.

My rating system is pretty easy to follow:

1 Star – Overall a book that I really did not enjoy and struggled to find positives things to say about it.

2 Stars – Had a few good points but overall the negatives outweigh the positives.

3 Stars – Fairly equal balance between good and bad points, but a good story none-the-less.

4 Stars- Really enjoyed the book, far more positive elements but still a negative element or two in the story.

5 Stars- This is a standout book for me, something that blows me away but isn’t perfect because very few books are.
